BCC Policies and Procedures Reminder
I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend and is having a great start to their Spring season!
I want to remind all parents, staff, and children to refer to our Parent Handbook re: policies and procedures. We are so lucky to have such an incredible team of staff at our Centre. Hence, our slogan: BEST TEAM; Beautiful, Empowered, Strong, Teachers who Teach, Empower, Assist and Mentor. We are all so lucky to have them working with our children!!
I want to ensure all parents understand our written policies and procedures: Specifically, referring to the following:
- “Use of harsh or degrading measures or threats or use of derogatory language directed at or used in the presence of a child that would humiliate, shame or frighten the child or undermine his or her self-respect, dignity or self-worth; and
- “Inflicting any bodily harm on children, etc” (p.16, Parent Handbook, 2023). – when addressing bullying, the daycare will use a progressive discipline approach. Progressive discipline allows the daycare to choose from a range of options to address the behaviour and help the student learn from his or her choices. Some examples include: an apology for a hurtful or disrespectful comment, a review of the expectations for the student, a meeting with parents/guardians, anger management counselling, having the individual removed from the centre. The Brighton Children’s Centre will not tolerate bullying in any form. If a parent is unwilling to assist the centre with their anti-bullying approach, the centre will have the right to decline care” (p. 21, Parent Handbook: 2023)
Moreover, concerns about the Suspected Abuse or Neglect of a child everyone, including members of the public and professionals who work closely with children, are required by law to report suspected cases of child abuse or neglect. I want to remind our families that our policies and procedures are in alignment with the “Golden Rule” – treat others how you want to be treated.
I hope all families understand that it is imperative we work collectively for the children and abide by our guidelines; to ensure we can provide your children with a happy, safe, and healthy environment while you are at work. All our Educators love what they do and it is important we abide by the guidelines set in the Parent Handbook. Please call me if you have questions or concerns as I can happily meet in person or can make myself available via telephone or email Monday to Friday! I hope you all have a wonderful day! Thank you for your time and patience.
Kind regards,
Brynn Jones, B.A.
